Item description

Kno Knoise is a constrained layer dampener, or what is now commonly abbreviated as a CLD. What is a CLD? A CLD is a material that adheres to panel to reduce resonant noise by using a viscoelastic polymer, in this case butyl rubber, sandwiched between two constraining walls to strengthen or “deaden” the outer wall. The outer aluminum backing reinforces the panel and reduces vibrations and rattles. It deadens the panel it is attached to, thus the name sound deadener. Kno Knoise quiets your vehicle’s panels by stopping the vibrations that generate noise.

Kno KnoiseXT  uses the thickest aluminum top constraining layer (12mil) and butyl rubber (120mil) in one package. Kno KnoiseXT has a total thickness of 3.3mm and weighs over a pound per square foot.  Sold per sheet.

Why do these components matter?
In order to prevent or reduce vibration within a panel, we need to make the panel more rigid. The foundation of our KnoKnoise is butyl rubber. Butyl is odorless, dense, flexible, and very sticky. Our 3mm thick viscoelastic layer adds 1.21 pounds of mass per square foot. This layer disperses energy (vibration)  while adding mass, which in turn requires more energy to vibrate the panel. Adding mass is just one part of the process of reinforcing a panel. With Kno KnoiseXT we have paired a high mass dampener with the thickest aluminum constraining layer we could source. At 12mil thick our Kno KnoiseXT uses aluminum that is 2-3 times thicker than “premium” dampeners. This ultra rigid, extra thick top layer, the backbone of our Kno KnoiseXT, is the reinforcement layer. This stiff top constraining layer reinforces the strength of the panel to which it is attached

How to apply?
Apply Kno KnoiseXT to a clean, dry metal panel. Any dirt will impair adhesion. Cleaning the area with a solvent like rubbing alcohol is not required unless applying to an area that may have been waxed or has had a similar surface treatment. Using heat is not required, though a warm surface and dampener is easier to shape and apply. If you should choose to use a roller, KnuKonceptz recommends a simple, flat wood roller that can be found at most home improvement stores.
